Reiki and Animals

The photo you see up above is my friend Brenda's horse getting Reiki and massage.  If you know anything about horses, you can see that he is greatly enjoying it.  He has Cushing's disease but it's well managed because Reiki and massage are a big part of his treatment.

In case you are not aware of what Reiki is, it's a form of energy healing where the healer transmits life force energy to the recipient through the palms of the hands.  Life force energy, or Ki, must flow freely through the body for optimum health.  When blockages form, disease is the result.  Reiki helps to keep the energy flowing in a healthy manner. If you think that sounds a bit crazy, you should know that Reiki is practiced worldwide, and is now also available in hospitals, clinics, and even the VA.  If you want to learn more about Reiki and energy healing, pick up a copy of my book, Reiki, Crystals and Chakras from Amazon.

I've been working with animals for 40 years and I've found that they not only respond well to Reiki, but they actually seek it out.  Brenda's horses will indicate with their noses where they are in pain, and dogs and cats will come up to me and ask for it.  I've even used Reiki when I was a groomer to calm down animals that are frightened and stressed.

Before I had an office, I used to have Reiki Circles at my house where two cats and two dogs were in residence. After the Circle, they would take turns lying on the Reiki table, absorbing the leftover energy.  I have had animals come and sit in the center of our Circles too.  They are well aware of the benefits of Reiki and they don't have the human "monkey mind" to doubt it. And that's the beautiful thing about Reiki; you don't have to actually believe in it to benefit from it.

Reiki is also beneficial for wild animals.  It is possible to send Reiki over distances, so you don't have to get too close.  I once noticed an elephant at a zoo exhibiting stress symptoms, and I sent her Reiki and she calmed right down.

Reiki is not a miracle cure and should be used in conjunction with your doctor or veterinarian's treatment.
